Yay, more updates! This post comes almost word for word from my other blog. I do include some extra technical details here though, for those who are interested.

Patreon

In case you haven’t noticed the lovely Patreon banner on the site, well, I’ve got a Patreon page.

What is Patreon?

Patreon is a website that allows creators to share their content with their fans and allows fans to support their favorite creators. Payments are monthly but can be as little as $1 per month and can be canceled anytime.

What are your patrons funding?

You can check out the Patreon page for a detailed explanation. For the summarized version, keep reading.

I like to write, including blog posts, stories, and code. Like most people, I also require money–to pay for this server, for college, so on. So I figured “why not combine the two?” Getting paid to do things I already do? Yes, please :)

All content I make will be publicly available, though. Patron benefits are a matter of recognition and contribution. Rather than offering premium content, I’m offering patrons the ability to provide feedback before anyone else. This means patrons have access to polls to help me determine which ideas to use, can be beta readers for any stories I write, and can be beta testers for any games or other programs I put together.

Please note that, though I write fan fiction on this site, I cannot be paid for content made using someone else’s intellectual property. I’d rather not have to deal with any sort of legal trouble that may rise from that. So patron contributions go toward original stories only. Any mention of fan fiction in relation to Patreon will be ignored.

Speaking of which, I’ve got a few ideas for original stories lined up. Keep an eye out!

Theme Update

I’ve also been working on updating the theme used for my blogs. I’d previously been using my own modifications on top of someone else’s theme, but then I put together some code that makes almost the exact same look, only slightly different. Why? The code wasn’t how I thought it should be organized, mainly. Plus I like making my own versions of things–for the learning experience.

The new theme is created using the Foundation libraries by Zurb, particularly the CSS framework, though I’m also using a couple of their JavaScript libraries for the site menu. There are a couple bugs to iron out, but the menu will soon be able to have nested entries that are displayed in a dropdown menu on medium to wide screens and a drilldown menu on small screens.

Also, we now have comments! This new theme provides a new commenting system powered by Hashover. Comments are anonymous, which means that you don’t need to sign up or log in to leave a message behind. That said, you can provide a nickname for your comments, an email address for reply notifications, a password for later editing your comment, or a link back to your own website. Comments are stored on this server and are not shared with anyone else (a personal point of contention with Disqus, which uses their comment system for targeting ads). You can learn more about how the comment system works here.

Ta-Ta For Now

That’s all so far. I’m still working on random projects, the third chapter of Nightwing Begins, and figuring out which of three ideas for an original story I want to start with first. Want to help me out?
